w109 6.3 Calipers on a 4.5 Rear Axle?

hi guys, I am new to the MB world and this forum. Just wanted to know if the rear brake calipers from a W108/9 6.3L would fit on the rear axle of a W108/9 4.5L V8.

I am putting the 4.5 axle in my W110 230 which has a disc / drum setup. Where is the pro portioning valve that I need to remove or change for disc / disc use?

Thanks much.

vented rotors or not vented rotors. That is the question. Older 6.3's had vented rear rotors. The calipers for those won't fit on anything else. The later ones had solid rear rotors and should be the same as the other 108/109 v8 cars. You can confirm that with a free online registration of the US EPC.

But if you have a 4.5 rear, didn't it have calipers?

If searching here didn't find any threads on the disc brake upgrade for the W110/W111 cars, try the sl113 dot org forum. It's also a popular upgrade for the 230sl.

Also piston diameter may be different. I remember notocing that so you should check is as it may alter brake balance between frnt and back.

Hi guys, thanks for your responses.

The calipers on the 4.5 rear axle (and car) are rusty, but the JY also has a 6.3 rear axle that has some "silver" calipers. Not sure if these are new, aluminum, or silver paint, but they look fantastic. Both rears have solid non-vented rotors.

The 4.5 is in a car, VIN available, but the 6.3 is in a pile of axles.

You should grab the 6.3 axle-they are sought after.

It should be noted that the vented rotors for the early 6.3s are available again (per Tom Hansen at the MB Classic Center in CA). Referenced in the following:
