Graham,

I can see the pics.

David,

I'd be happy to meet, mind you I am still breaking the engine in and hunting down vacuum leaks, etc. I plan on getting a wide-band oxygen sensor so I can adjust the fuel mixture.
I took it on the highway today and for some reason the engine does not make any more power over half throttle, so I still have things to fix.
bye,

Csaba

The proper seal for where the injector goes into the manifold is, according to manual part 116 078 04 73. So called top hat seals. I use those on my 72 M117.

There are the other kind used on some cars 116 078 07 73. (So called green seal)

These latter ones were apparently used on California models from engine # 019517
Federal models from engine # 026126.
Yesterday I replaced my injectors on the 72 W108... I found out the PO installed both seals simultaneously ....

I think that only the 116 078 0473 are required, can somebody confirm?

BTW, anybody know part number for the circlip (under the upper seal)?

The top "Seal" isn't a seal, as it doesn't seal anything. It is only a retainer ring. The circlip can be obtained from any hardware store I'd imagine, such as Lowe's etc. If Lowe's doesn't have, True Value likely would. Just take one of the older ones with you that's good for sizing.

Not sure if I understood, but the green ring in the seal pictures may look like the upper ring, but as Tomguy said, the upper ring is not a seal just a cushion for the clamping bracket. The green ring takes the place of the top-hat seal on a small number of cars.

The manual is a bit confusing, but on page 215/3 it shows the two types of seals. For the top hat seal (2nd pic), it also shows the rubber ring that goes under the clamping bracket.

epc is not too clear, but it seems the circlip may be part N000471024000. One on line source describes that part as 'Circlips 24x1.2' so that is probably the correct number.

Thank you guys.

I wasn't clear enough and just to avoid any confusion for future readers... the old injectors had the upper retaining ring plus BOTH seals, the green and the hat!

Its clear now that for my W108 car only the hat seal is required, and not the green seal.
