Currently, I drive my 1972 220D daily and she hasn't let me down.
Before that, I was driving a 1978 300D. It too was quite reliable. Other classics I've had in the past were: 1967 VW Beetle 1965 Ford Thunderbird 1963 Chevy II While not quite classics, I've also driven the following as daily drivers: 1978 International Scout II 1978 Toyota Corolla Liftback 1984 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE In fact, the only cars I've owned which are less than 25 years old have been a 1986 Ford Bronco, 1995 Ford Thunderbird and 1993 Jeep Cherokee. Aside from the Mercedes, the most reliable of these cars were the Beetle, Corolla and the Cherokee after I highly modified it for hot weather driving. I couln't really be happier now that I have "Trudy" the 1972 220D. Phil Forrest

I drive the '75 240d almost daily (~60miles). The tranny needs some work, but it's the best car I have for long commutes. We just drove it down to LA, about a 2,000 mile trip in 2 days of driving.
As for where I park it....Away from other cars in the back of the lot. I always leave the key in the ignition on all my vehicles. If I don't I'd lose it. I don't worry about anyone stealing it b/c no one (tire guy, etc) that I have gave instructions and demonstrated can manege to read the knob "pull to start" to start the car. People also seem to have difficulties with reverse, so I really have no faith in anyone figuring it out.

classic ?
I don't know if I (or the car) qualifies..
I am driving a 1978 300CD , 2 years plus without a reverse... held up well, crappy mileage (I never did get it down) It is telling me in many ways that it needs to get vacation or retire.... |

I drive my '77 300D 100 miles daily, owned since 1998, bought it with 100k mi, now showing 497k mi. Second motor, original transmission, original front brake rotors, original interior. Everything works; air conditioning, cruise, factory Becker Europa radio. New OE Caledonia Green paint. Stunningly reliable, 24.5 summer mpg. Robust, easy to work on, keeping up with the maintenance.

I drove my 67 Chevelle for a coulpe years as a daily before selling it... I'm building a 1972 K5 Blazer that will be my daily once complete in the beginning of 2014. It does have a modern drive train swap with a 4" lift and 35" tires... so I'm looking for a 280SEL 4.5 as a nice long distance cruiser and to share the daily commute... about 50 miles a day... I dont think I'lll ever own a new car... they all look the same and who wants a payment... I would rather just reinvest in a classic ride....
