Help! DIY Leather seat replacement

Hello Folks,
the leather seats of my W111 Coupè need replacing, I found a reputable seller here in europe that has them ready to fit, do you think is a difficult task?
I'm quite good at DIY but have never installed upholstery, apart from a few motorcycle seat covers...
Has anybody done that previously?
Can you please give me your opinion?

Best regards,

Marco

I've never tried but considered doing this myself too. The word I got, and from doing research, is that it is very difficult to get the leather to lay flat and perfectly smooth without experience doing this sort of thing. Also, you may find that you need special pliers and fasteners that you may have to chase after, but a shop would already have on hand. I decided to simply let a shop do the install when the time comes, rather than go through the work, risk damaging the hides, then still end up paying someone to fix my mess. Others may have more encouraging words however.

Usually the front seat backs are the hardest. I've never done them on MB, but I've done them on old Volvos and Fiats and it turned out fine. I just did the rear seat lower cushion upholstery, and it was very easy.
The special rings needed are called hogrings, and they are put on with hogring pliers. These are usually available at hobby stores.

Thanks Folks for your opinions.
I think I'll have to find someone to have the interior installed, better not to ruin a good set of covers.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,

Marco

Did my 280SEL in MB TEX...supplier has the Benz patterns and they were a perfect fit...take the seats out and have a good lighted work bench...not a hard job...I did front and back...

I haven't done a mercedes, but I am currently doing my Citroen DS using a kit - I took a few photos along the way of using the hog rings etc if it is of any help. On the Citroen I am replacing Targa (Vinyl) with Cloth. The targa is not up to MB-TEX quality - it feels like plastic.

I was interested in doing something like this when I had my previous 250SE, but I sold the car before I got up to looking at interior.
