It was posted over on BenzWorld. There was a claim it was a rare "grey market" car but the consensus seems to be it's merely a 220D dropped into a W114 coupe. I have never seen a W114 with anything but a gas engine in stock form. Caveat emptor. $500 rust bucket.

I'm with Mike D on this one. W114=6cylinder gasser. At this point, tons of these cars have received replacement engines, so it is not like swapping from gas to diesel is such a big deal. My 220d is a bit rough around the edges, but that car makes mine look like a garage queen. Yikes!

As an aside, what the heck is that thing inside the guy's garage/workshop? Looks like a fiberglass/cardboard front to a mini locomotive.

The 114 coupe was never produced with a diesel engine. Putting a 220D engine into it is a waste of time. If you are going to do a diesel swap on a 114 much better to put in a turbo diesel 5 cylinder. It's been done. Not that big of a deal as I recall...

There's a nice sounding OM606 conversion on youtube too...

An engine swap to a 300 turbodiesel is about $5000. Why anyone would swap to a 220 diesel engine instead is beyond me. In CA you can get a nice running gas 114 couple for $4000 - $6000. gotta look at what the cost to fix this one up is, and whether or not you can live with the wimpy engine...

what did you do with your hands lately ?
Sorry that I offended you when I had trouble identifying that from the original picture. It is rather unique, so I am not sure why it offended you that I could not identify it. Thanks for clarifying.

What have I done with my hands lately? Really, you want to get into a petty comparison like that. Take it over to Open Discussion please.

Best of luck with your sale. When it sells, please do report back on how much you get. Perhaps we are wrong about its value. Your posts have indicated that clearly beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Interesting car. I find the choice of OM615 with an autotragic to be very odd. Anything less powerful than a 617.95x really ought to come with a manual. I'm not sure what the market in NJ is like, but that car would go for somewhere between $300 and $1000 here.

might not be your cup of tea but its one of mine.
I actually like that quite a bit, cool project! Reminds me of the Japanese custom van culture but on an American scale. Welcome to the forum and it is nice to have you here as part of the conversation. Do you own any other MBs?
