Wiring for tail lights on '74 240D?

I have a 1974 240D and the passenger side tail lights aren't working. When I went to check the bulbs, before I even pulled the housing off I noticed that there was no wire or plug going into the top of the housing. See the attached photo. There is a plug and two wires going into the that input but this three-prong input doesn't have anything going in. The drivers side has it and those lights work but this side doesn't. I also can't find the wire that should go in there. I'm wondering if I can just split the wire going into the drivers side and run an extension wire and male three-prong plug to go into this passenger side. Any thoughts?

There isn't anything plugged in to the top of my passenger side light housing. They may have made the opening in the top of the housing for right hand drive models where they would have reversed the wiring. There IS something plugged in on the drivers side.

On the passenger side, the main plug (5 pin?) goes into the back of the housing and then the wire splits off into two lines and the smaller line has another connection very close to the taillight housing. Both wires then disappear into the depths and I didn't get into tracing them very much.

I know this may not be helpful. Let me know if you need a pic or something.

P.S. did you check the fuses? Taillights are on a circuit with some other items.

Thanks Joshol. That answers my questions. Sounds like my setup is precisely the same as yours - three-pin plugged in on the drivers side, nothing plugged in there on the passenger side, but two wires plugged into the same main outlet on both sides. I'll get into the fuses and carefully check through the bulbs on that passenger side to see what I can figure out.

IIRC, on my 108, that plug went to the quarter panel marker light. On the newer chassis, it may not due to different wiring on the later models, but still use the earlier models' casting.
