Removing the alternator on 1975 240D?

I've got a 1974 240D with a 1975 motor in it and the alternator has gone sour, it is putting out no juice whatsoever to the battery. I've just ordered up a rebuilt alternator from USA Enterprises. Any suggestions on the easiest and best way to remove the old alternator that's on the car? It has the geared adjustment bracket & bolt, rather than the L-bracket. I've attached a diagram that I found on this site.
Thanks.

Remove battery cable

Loosen 155 and 200 and probably 230
Push the alternator to towards the block and remove the belts
Disconnect the electric connectors at the rear of the alternator
Remove 200 and 230 and finally 155. Lift out and drop in new one
after cleaning up all you can under the old one.

Belts?

Thanks TNBob for the advice. I don't have a manual for this vehicle and now I'm wondering to loosen and remove the power steering belt so that I can remove and replace the alternator belt. Is there a loosening bolt/nut that does the trick?

Surprise surprise, the more I get in here, the more that needs to be replaced. Now the electrical cable and plug that goes into the back on the alternator needs to be replaced. It's all cracked hard and looks like it has endured a short or two. My question is how do you replace this cable. It is shielded with three wires inside, two are braided and one is a red plastic coated cable. Actually, there are two sets of these wires inside the main cable - one set goes to the AC unit, but I have that unit disconnected so I'm just going to tie off that set.

Do I need to trace back that main cable to its origin and replace the whole cable or can I splice on three wires somewhere back along the way where the cable seems healthy and then run these new spliced wires to a new plug to go into the alternator?

Braided = stranded ?
Almost any even big box place has shielded wire.
Any shop that rebuilds alternators should have the plug you need.

How far back to go ? Depends on the condition of the existing wire. Its a one time repair, Id say replace it all.

Thanks for your help, TNBob. Last question - how do you loosen and remove the power steering belt? I need to replace the alternator belt and need the ps belt off to do that.
