Wow, love the clk wheel idea. Almost prefer that to the 15" bundts I had winter chromed recently. May copy your process for my 240D at some point as it too is pristine. Really opens up tire options. Thanks for sharing!

Thx, I still need to paint the wheel centers and mod the hubcaps to fit, but am enjoying the light weight 16", they make such a difference.

I really like the 114 coupes, having owned five 250s and one 280 (same color and interior as yours). You are doing great stuff to the car, keep up the good work. I am not a fan of non-stock wheels, but I compliment you on the way the 16s are turning out.

But please, get the proper muffler with twin tips!

Cheers,

CT

Thank you I am enjoying the W114 Coupe platform. The PO had a new muffler installed, its to bad they did not do one with twin tips, maybe I will change it at some point.

Thx

Hi, very nice switch of shift knob. I would like to do this myself, but mine is a 4-shift manual and it looks like the original shift stick is to short for a ball shift knob. Did you have to replace yours with a longer stick ?

JanV,

I believe there were two different manual gear shift knobs offered in the W114 and W115 cars.

The long, thin, chrome shift lever with the spherical plastic knob was the early style.

At some point in 1972 Mercedes switched to a shorter shift lever and a tall, rubber ergonomic knob.

In order to install an early style shifter into a later car you will need the correct lever, the knob, and the rubber boot.

I just recently switched my car to the early style knob and also repainted the shift pattern numerals.

Shift knob

Thanks Carl.
I post some pictures of mine 1971 MB 250C. The second owner had the new steering wheel fitted, when he bought it in 1974. Yesterday I test fitted my original white steering Wheel. I am planning to fit a white ball shift knob from "Niemoeller" in Germany. As you will se in the pic I will need to get a New shift stick or an extension?

The longer shift lever for the early manual setup is not threaded at the top, it's splined.

The shift knob just pushes down on top of the lever.

I like the lines on the car.

I've always had an affinity for pillarless coupes, like the W126 coupes.

The little rod at the bottom of it, where the spring hook holds on, finally broke after 43 years.

This will be fixed soon.

Thx
