Owned and driven most of her life by a little old lady she has a few dents and dings that are all being fixed this week....

Inside she is amazingly clean, all the chrome shines, all of the switches and knobs look, work and feel as they should. I'll post more photos latter...

Just got these light weight CLK wheels ( Thanks Jeff ! ) 16x7 and only 13lbs, that's 10lbs less that the stock steel 14x5.5 wheels. You guys have seen these wheels before, I like the weight but I don't like the look, so we have to change that.

I like the classic mod look so I plan to mount the center section of a Benz hubcap on them, take the wheel ....

Add this center cap....

After they are polished, painted and have the hubcap center on them they should look a bit like ....

Most of these cars, in the Dallas area anyway, came equipped like yours. But the power antenna and the lowered seat were rare options at the time. Take care of them as they will be hard to replace.

I also remove the badges off the back for waxing. Some think this is overkill but I am under the impression they were mounted the way so this would be possible. You might want to pick up some of the plastic inserts at the dealer for spares as they will wear and need to be replaced.

All in all a wonderful find. It is nice to see the car in the hands of someone who will enjoy it to the fullest and give it the continued care it will need.

.... or go with 11 pound aluminum wheels that take your existing hubcaps.... 14 x 5.5 or 14 x 6.0....

Yes that was my 1st plan, but I like 16's and the overall wheel / tire combo sould be just as light.

Hmmm. Well it will be lighter than steel wheels. If you like the non-stock look then great. BTW, I _LOVE_ the California blue license plates... Nice.

I'm confused. Are you going to put the dog dish hubcap in the center of the CLK wheel and then paint/polish the CLK wheel to look like it has a chrome trim ring, or are you going to also utilize the chrome trim ring that you show in your photograph....

I was under the impression that all coupes came with the lowered seats due to the lower roof line ?

Thx for all of the input, I will do my best to keep her nice

Alibassi listed link a while back pointing to a British test of a 280C W114 coupe. They spcifically mention the lower seat option in the article.

The sedan seats are different from the coupe front seats (and backs as well), the coupe has a lower roofline, hence the option.

Well so far the details have not need worked out yet but the basic plan is to use a light weight 16" wheel and put a hub cap on it to get a classic look.

I''ll be working on this more in the next few weeks

I'm not clear on what "lowered seats" means. As an option on a car, it would mean that there is a pull handle to the outer side of the seat bottom that when you pull up, you can raise/lower the height of the seat.

Do you mean something else?

I'm 6' 4" and my 71 250 C did not have "lowered seats" and the car had plenty of headroom. However your car has a sunroof and I wonder if cars with sunroofs also have lowered front seats as the sunroof probably eats up between 1 and 2 inches of headroom...

The front seats are different than those of a sedan because they tilt forward to allow access to rear seat. And they have a vacuum lock (that seldom works) to prevent the seat back from folding forward while the vehicle is running with doors closed.
