want to convert from loose wire alternator to 3 pin plug

I'd like to replace my older alternator with a 'newer' version. The car in question is a 1965 220se coupe and unit needed is from a 1968 onward. Mine has 4 loose wires that are secured to the backside of the alternator. I want to update it to the newer version with 3 pin plug on the back common on the later w108's. Has anyone done this and can you supply photos or instructions on how to go about this.
