The 6.3 is a magnificent car IF.......
You are willing to spend lots of cash to buy the many unique and rare items specific to this car, not found on on any other W108/W109 car. Even if you find it on another non 6.3 car....i.e.; air suspension components, it will still be pricey. I owned one in the late seventies, I absolutely loved it when it was running well, but I was crushed by the cost of operation and maintenance. I decided I'd rather have several old cars rather than one 6.3 Mercedes. My wife used to call it the $600 car. Every time we drove it, it cost $600. Not that mine was a particularly bad example, Dad had bought it in 1973, so I knew most of it's history. It was replaced with a few year old 77 6.9 for Mom. Nothing like a good running 6.3. Mom's 6.9 was nowhere near as much fun, IMHO. That 6.3 literally exploded off the line in smoke and fury, the 6.9 was smooooooth, but not nearly as exciting. The 6.3 is still my Mom's all time favorite car. Jim

Most of the unique features of the 6.3 are confined to the engine itself and related hardware. Other than that, the wheels are a little wider, the brakes a little bigger, and there's a mini tachometer in place of the clock in the instrument cluster. The rest is all pretty much "standard" 300SEL and 108 stuff.
The additional cost of putting a recoverable 6.3 in fine shape should be offset by the increasingly high values they are returning in the marketplace. I also owned a fine euro 6.9, which benefited from an unrestricted engine and the graceful bumpers and lights that were denied to the US market. It was indeed powerful and smooth, but I never liked it as well as the preceeding generation 109 cars. It was comparatively cold and austere and just didn't have the rich elegance of its predecessor. Which is why I now have a fine 300SEL 4.5 instead.

Awesome to hear! This is a fairly local 6.3... Asking isn't the same as sold for, but the price is nuts!

Hi
Got it for around 20k usd. I could have bought a 70 250S in appx the same condition for 8K. Now I feel a tickeling joy mixed with fear of the unknown ;-) But you got to remember, in this country a new Mustang with the biggest engine available will cost you close to 300K USD.....

Good luck with your 6.3. I think you did well, especially considering the cost of collector cars in Norway.

Of course, I'd rather have many, many other cars before a GT500
