Pontons and Fintails are great cars!

They were only hampered by being a little underpowered in the 4 cyls., but in the days they were built, they were made for city driving, especially the four-bangers.

Many of the four-banger diesels were taxis or company cars.

The sixes were great for the autobahn doing 90 mph in those old M180 series engines.

I loved mine, still have 3 pontons, although two will be going away...

Am seriously thinking about making one into a Frankenponton diesel daily driver with AC, but that will depend on the other projects:

- Completing my 100 gallon/week enriched biodiesel facility

- Restoring a Kubelwagem (yes I know, it's not Benz)

- restoring the first Traction Avant imported to the US (a '37, I found it!)

- putting a OM617 into a R107 body

Have finished the family estate liquidation and can concentrate on other items now...

As mentioned in the comments...Mercedes were rally champs in the W111 era. it was only the Chrysler debacle which spoiled things . And now Fiat is making a motza with the same company...what on earth went on.. ?:

Please post photos! Growing up, I thought the VW Safari/Thing was the coolest car. And then I realized that kubelwagens and schwimmwagens were even cooler. I have not even thought about those vehicles in 30 years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).
