Sunday was not a fun day.

Got tagged by some lowered EK Civic and did a fare amount of damage to my rocker panel. I figure there are two ways to fix this; cut and weld a new section or pulling the metal out. I would prefer to cut it out and weld in a new piece.

Any thoughts on this or anyone know a good body shop in Seattle?

So you are asking for thoughts on a 'cut and weld a new section or pulling the metal out' fix for the lowered EK Civic?

Sorry I know much about Civics.

I think you should cut it out and start fresh, spare yourself some headaches (tho a pic would really help understand the damage). Are you going to cut from a donor or fab up the piece? As for recommendations, are you a MBCA member? The local members would likely have some good advice for you, or even an old school custom rod type shop, I know that may sound funny to some but these are the guys who have a lot of the old world ways (leading in, working with thick MB panels, etc.) and I rather like that approach on old cars, but that's my preference.

A old hot rod shop would be better suited. Ill have to find one around here.

I have made this repair, and its not easy, the unibody construction does not do well with cutting out a piece and welding it back, unless you are an experenced welder and know structural integrity guidelines. Plus I would expect you will find some rust lurking wich may make things worse. Try and find a frame shop with the equipment to pull that out, it may or may not be possible. The door is easy , just get another one and paint it. .

who cares about the civic, FF = Failedx2

I know a really good welder that understands integrity. He builds roll cages to FIA specs and loads of other stuff. Some of the cleanest welds i have ever seen. Im hoping to get it pulled out but would almost think it would look better and last longer with a cut and paste.

Have you reached out to Speedware... Speedware Motorsports - The Only Thing We Don't Supply is the Driver! - Speedware Motorsports - Racing Safety Distributor in Woodinville? They do some major builds with alot of custom welding, very nice guys. I take my Audi there from time to time and will have them replace my floor pans (w108) eventually.

I'm familiar with Speedware. Bought a set of Sparco harnesses for my AE86. I'll have to give them a call. Thanks

Sounds like you thought about this. Good luck. Just have your welder study the uniframe structure

I know this guy that lives in Des Moines, about 100 blocks due south of the 3rd runway. He's got 2 sets of left and right rocker panel outer skins for 114/115 cars in the rafters of my er his garage

Bought 'em a long time ago to section up for a 280C. That project never happened, the City of Seattle impounded it when the guy I sold it to let his wife's drug dealer/boyfriend drive it without a license.

Michael

PS, Speedware is the shop that measured my 450SEL for a harness brace for another forum member's car. Very cool place.
