Help with ID-ing mystery w116 euro? cc switch, NOS

Greetings, I normally hang out over on the Diesel forum.

I am eBaying some old stuff I had in boxes in my storage shed and came across a large potentiometer switch with a detent (either on/off or a setting) and a wire-metal 'tail' a few inches long, coiled.

All I can get back from the Atlanta dealer parts catalogue is that it's an electrical switch for the heating/cooling/ventilation system. The Russian EPC only shows a similar part number 116 821 00 51, and it appears to be one of the rotary switches for the european climate control setup for the w116. (As I am in Canada, I don't have access to the MBUSA EPC.)

The PN is 116 821 01 51. The Mercedes list is $260(!).

I am doing some pics of stuff tomorrow and will post a photo then.

Much appreciated.

It sounds like a thermostat for the A/C system. The coil of wire sits on the A/C coil and when it gets warm it tells the compressor to cut in and when it gets cold it tells the compressor to shut off.

Arrow

It is a combined vacuum and temperature switcher (temperature regulator).

It's a capillary tube/control unit--the probe goes deep into the middle of the evaporator coil--on the 114/115 units there's an adjusting screw behind a sliding panel that regulates the on-off function in 4-degree Celsius increments, I believe
