1971 220 and 79 450SEL

Found a 1971 220 (no engine or trans) sitting on the top of pile at the junk yard today, the dash was in incredible condition, steering wheels has some cracks, has the original radio, interior is in okay shape, defiantly some usable parts, trunk is locked and no key would have to pop.

I can pick any part that is need, and payment and shipping can be arranged for exact cost itself.

Are you definitely going back? The part I could use is totally minor and not worth a trip, but has been hard to find for me. If you are already there for some other reason, I would really appreciate the knob off the emergency hazard relay. In your photo of the radio, the knob I need is slightly above the right side of the radio with a red dot in the middle of it. Mine has cracked through and I have it covered in red electrical tape. My car isn't a show car, but red electrical tape on a knob is even below my standards.

My recollection is that it just unscrews off of the relay (which is hidden behind the center part of the dash). I would only need the knob and not the relay. But this is a low priority request, so don't worry if you would rather not bother.

There are a few saab parts I need to pick up there, I will certainly grab that knob, is there anything else? The part will most likely be $5 then probably $2 shipping usps first class.

I would really appreciate your help, so thanks for offering to do this.

I checked on my car and that emergency flasher knob is standard, right hand threaded onto the shaft. So removing is hopefully just twisting it counter clockwise. The middle part of the knob (the red part) is pretty thin/delicate I think. $5 to the JY seems reasonable.

I looked through your photos carefully, and I think there are a few other parts that would be great to get.

I saw two manual window cranks and I am interested in as many of those as you can find (up to four). The vinyl pad clips tightly into the metal arm, somewhere near the middle of the pad. So just pry up (away from the door) on the vinyl against the chrome. Once that pops off, it is pretty straight forward. I would like the vinyl pad, the crank, and even the white plastic washer that is behind it all if possible. I will need to paint the vinyl pad, so their condition isn't super critical. But if the chrome is pitted or rusting, or if the plastic handle is in bad shape, I will pass. $10 each is the most I would want to spend.

The caps/covers for the front door vent window knobs would be helpful too, but only if they aren't cracked/scratched. It is a round flat plastic bit that is the most visible part of the vent window knobs. To get the front cover off, there is a hole on the backside of the knob which can be tricky to find. You have to use a bent coat hanger or something to reach around from behind, poke through that hole, and push the front cover off from its back. The cap/covers are most valuable to me because mine are cracked or scratched. I don't need the entire round knob really, just its center cap/cover. These sell for $10 new from the dealer, so I guess I would hope they would only cost a few bucks each.

My car is a daily driver which got pretty run down and I am slowly fixing it up. If anything I requested is broken or rusty or beat up, please don't worry about getting it. I am trying to only "upgrade" when the replacement part is substantially nicer than what I already have. Also, nothing is mission critical, so if they price they ask for a part seems high to you, just decline on my behalf.

I will PM you my contact info so that you know I am not going to stiff you. Thanks again for your time.

Obviously I would love the radio. Window cranks and inserts (but someone already asked about those). To the person who needs the hazard knob, if he can't get it I have extras and you can have one.

@Shortsguy1
Knob
All window cranks (drivers handle is missing I see from pictures)
Vinyl Pad? In picture 20140517_082451.jpg the entire interior door cover, handle included?
Vent caps (20140517_082451.jpg and 20140517_082451.jpg where the air comes out from or the lever to the left of those? Picture?)

I can verify prices wednesday for cranks and the interior door cover.

@ScooterABC
Radio, would you like the wires in tact, or can they be cut off?

When I collect all the items I will pm both of you for an address, as well as arrange for payment.

Fantastic! There is actually nothing to cut. If you take off the knobs on the front of the radio (slide off) then the chrome bezel can be lifted by shifting it to either the left or right and pulling forward slightly. It's held in by spring clips on the left and right side. The chrome bezel and plastic number bar will come off together. Then you will see two aluminum bars with a big hex screw in it going vertical near each of the radio shafts. Loosen those big hex screws and slide the bars up or down such that then can be removed from the front. Those are holding the radio chassis to the dash face. When those are out then grab the radio (the pot metal bezel) and pull it forward - there is an alignment pin in the back on the right side, the radio should slide straight out except turn to the side to get the alignment pin past the dash. Speakers (probably 1), Antenna, and power probably unplug. Power antenna if it has one which is unlikely unplugs. Really the only wire to cut would be the power wire to the radio which is a black thick wire all by itself, probably going to an in-line fuse about 12 inches in. If you can preserve the power wire and cut it with at least a few inches of wire left that would be great. Nothing else to cut... super easy. And much appreciated !!!!

Let me know what I can send to you that you might need!

Scott

Assault-
I miscommunicated a bit, so let me fix it.

1) Emergency flasher knob with red circle in the middle. Located above the radio in one of your photos. (1 needed if available)

2) Window cranks, vinyl pads, and white washers (up to 4 needed if available). The vinyl pad is just the small red colored thing attached to the window crank in your photos. The washers are whitish plastic between the window crank and the door panel. I do not need any door panels/skins. In this photo, the vinyl pad is brown.

(as an aside, I know this window crank is slightly different from the w115. I just picked this image to show the vinyl pad. It is the window cranks in your photos that I actually want)

3) Vent window knob cap (up to 2 needed if available). It is the round thing in the bottom left of this photo:

Unfortunately, you cannot see the hole to poke through knob from the back to get the cap off. But hopefully this helps. Sorry for the confusion.

Sounds simple enough, I'll do my best to preserve the wiring, and from what I recall it was a fixed antenna, at least it was fully extended when I saw it.

@Shortsguy1
ohhhh, yes that helps tremendously, I was wounding I'm thinking $10 for the door pad seems off.

I will be taking a trip the yard Wednesday. If anyone else wants anything before then let me know

You have a treasure trove in hand if you wish to take an hour or two to strip all the good pieces from the interior. Be careful with the radio as it appears in good shape. Try not to cut any wires so as to make reinstallation that much easier for the next person.
