Replacing gaskets and seals on a W110
My engine has been leaking a bit for quite some time now, mostly oil but it seems like there are a few other leaks as well. So i figured i would refresh all the seals and gaskets at the same time.
Does any one have any tutorials or guides that could walk me through this? Also any recommendations on gasket and seal replacement parts or kits? |

Sounds like you need to find a workshop repair manual before going too far. Stuff like a valve cover gasket is straight forward, but a rear main seal will need some instructions (if it can even be done without crankshaft removal). You can get the Chiltons or similar manual, but they don't go into a lot of detail. Best to find a Mercedes-Benz paper copy or a CD that was sold by Mercedes a few years ago. I don't know of any manuals online, and Mercedes has been very vigilant in keeping copyrighted material off the web. As for parts, there are places on the web that still sell gaskets and seals, as well as the Mercedes dealer. This site most likely can get many of them as well. When I was looking for gaskets for my diesel, I discovered finding a overhaul gasket set was difficult, and when I did, it was expensive. But I did find out that almost all gaskets were available seperately. If you don't already have it, get a free subscription to the Mercedes EPC at: EPC-net Online They ask for a credit card # but don't charge to it. There you can look up all the gasket part numbers and then use them to search the web and parts store sites. I doubt there are too many seals you need to replace. Ones I can think of for oil are the valve cover, pan gaskets, front main seal, and rear main seal. Water could be the pump, hoses, and radiator. Those engines are pretty simple. You basically just have to trace the leaks one by one and replace the culprit gasket/seal. |
