Question 1971 250 Model 114

I own a 1971 250. It is in need of a good amount of resotoration. I am considering getting rid of it but I was wondering if it was worth the money to fix it up. The engine will start but it needs a overhaul. Any info would be great.

To be honest, I wouldn't get carried away breathing life into a 250 sedan. The coupes are worth putting some (not a lot, but some) money and effort into, but the sedans are just basic transportaation...

Thumbs down

Restoration is out of the question unless you do that for a living or have an incredible amount of money to spend.

To give you an idea of how much we're talking about ...

Total Engine overhaul $3500-$4500
New Engine $5000
New Head $3500
New Carbs $800 +
Pro Paint Job $3000

It's crazy.. you can get a car that runs and looks great for $2500 to $5000 and up.

Really .. unless you are just into tinkering and have alot of extra cash to spend on a hobby.. don't do it cause it's not a great investment. Especially with the engine... you pretty much have to drop a bundle to make a lasting fix once the head has been removed.. otherwise it could go south very shortly afterwards.

What are the symptoms of your engine trouble?

Amen. If you like the 114's, keep what is good, junk the rest and look for a coupe where you have a little headroom.
