First off, not the valve cover, but the cylinder head.
Wong head on the motor ? Look for part numbers in the following places... - Center of the head between plugs 3 & 4 is a casting number. - On the block forward of the driver's side engine mount. The first 3 digits will be 114 or 130, and they will match for a well built engine. There are plenty of engines out there with the wrong head on the block. It usually still works, sometimes. -CTH |

Oops My bad... OK so this 71 250 says 130.015 on the head rather than 130.293 like the block?

These numbers are casting numbers, so they will be different (that or your head is really a block). The only thing that counts on the casting numbers (for this exercise) is the first 3 digits. You really want to see 130 in both spots.

I did some double-checking, and the 114.010 was introduced in 1968 and ended its run in 1970. All 1971 models are 114.011.
