Exhanging parts from a 71 to 72 250
Any reasons I shouldn't beable to use a 71 250 as a parts car for 72 250? The engines are the same is the body?

The major changes came in '73 where they revised the body slightly.

You will find very minor differences. The one thing that comes to mind is that the '71 carbs are better because they did not have as many emissions changes.
Not to be pedantic, but the big change in '73 was not the body, but the M110 twin-cam engine and a different transmission. That put the battery on the passenger side and the carb on the driver side. The body changed in '74 with the black rubber on the bigger bumpers and ribbed taillights.

Maybe it's different in the States. In Europe, the M110 280C and CE's were released in '72 (The two 280ce's which I own were both manufactured in 1972) Also the body revisions were made in August 1973.

My 76 300d is a 115, however they released the 300d as a 123 in europe the same year. The haynes manual from 76-80? only covers 123s. Some parts from the early 123s work on my 115 but it's trial and error. Best bet is to do an actual physical comparison of the two cars, check egines, trans etc...

If your 1971 250/8 is a 114.011, then it is virtually identical to the 1972 250/8. On the other hand, if it's a 114.010, then everything's the same except the motor, carbs, exhaust.

Check your own engine.
The 114.011 car, badged as a 250/8 has an M130, the same 2.8l carbed motor as the 280/8. The head reads 280S/A actually. I can see how he might think it was a 4. If he opens the hood, stamped on the radiator support is the chassis number. It's repeated on the metal tag on the same support and on the windshield pillar and on the door pillar. -CTH |

The change happened in the middle of the 1971 model year, not 1969. 69 was the year it was introduced.

> So why does it say 280 on the valve cover????
Because the M130 is a 2.8l motor. -CTH |
