Where can I find the door plastic pockets?

I looked through Pelican Parts but couldn't find them or they don't offer them.

They are hard to find used.

Most were already broken on the W114/W115 cars I used to strip back in the 90's. I think they were kicked when people got in or out of the car.

W108 pockets are different than W115.

Jim

Who has them? A friend with a 280 sedan is looking for a pair. He hasn't contacted Classic Center, but has been searching fairly extensively to my knowledge.

Tomas,

I just did a repair to identical (or nearly so) map pockets on my 1973 280 (w114). Not endorsing them in any way, but I went to O Reilly's and purchased "PlasticWeld" which is an epoxy putty made by JB Weld. Comes in a small plastic tube with two parts putty and you cut off what you need from each stick and knead the two together to make an epoxy putty that hardens solid overnight.

Both my upper mounting holes were broken off, so I filled in what remained of the entire tab on each side with putty and closed up the existing holes. The bottom tabs were in place on my pocket, but in the absence of existing, I would add the putty just above the area where the old hook tabs were at the bottom, taking a thumb full of material and pushing it down so it sticks to the bottom of the pocket, but flush with the mounting surface.

After the stuff hardened up (says 20 minutes but I waited overnight) I sanded the mounting surface smooth and placed the pocket on the door trim panel. I then took a drill and drilled holes first in the upper mounting holes using the existing holes in the door trim panel as a guide and screwed two sheet metal screws with washers over the heads into the top mounting holes.

Once the top of the pocket is attached, then drill holes in the bottom of the door trim panel into the new bottom tabs you created in the map pocket. Use the same type of sheet metal screws and fasten the bottom of the pocket into place. When this epoxy putty hardens up it's like iron on the plastic map pocket (was for me anyway). I also removed the adhesive chrome strips from my map pockets as one was mostly gone and the other was all curled up. I hit the pockets with Goo Gone in those areas and everything cleaned up nicely.

If you want to replace the adhesive strips on the map pockets, some guy on ebay sells adhesive chrome stripping (do a search on that term - should come up) in 1/8", 1/4" and 3/8" widths. If I get around to it, I was going to buy the 1/8" stripping, but for now mine look OK without it.

Hope this info helps. BTW, there's another thread in interiors on a guy that did something similar - very informative as well. Gotta love PeachParts!!!!

Awesome write up and idea. This should go in the Tech page or the FAQ page.

Thank you very much.

I agree, "Gotta love PeachParts!!!!"
