My W111 had a seized engine when I got it. I put an ounce of transmission fluid in each spark plug hole and let it sit for a week. Then I was able to turn the engine with a wrench and got it to start. I was very happy when it ran. The joy of raising the dead is good stuff.

That carb on there would be a Solex 4A1. Good luck with it. If you do get if fired up, and it runs rough, check for vacuum leaks around the base... I hear that the surface where the carb mounts onto the intake likes to not maintain a perfect plane.
I know you bought it for a song and a dance, but please don't put too much money into it. (unless it is rust free, and the interior is still decent, and the rest is relatively trouble free)

It was never a car I was looking at to begin with for any reason. I thought it was cool with the right side drive. There is very little rust throughout the car as a whole. It has a spot or two. The interior is in decent to good shape. A real good one to flip to a much more appreciative owner. My preference lies in old American made vehicles. I would like to drive it at least once before I sell it to make sure it is sound. Besides, I have a rarer car that I am restoring at this time and honestly couldn't afford to do both at the same time. My other project sat for 34 years before I had it flatbedded to my house. It needs more attention.

Quick update... I drove it up and down the street. It was low on transmission fluid so I topped it off and shifted through the line a few times before dropping it in reverse. It went a 1/4 mile and I turned around. Thought I ran out of gas because we had just drained the tank but the points went out of contact. A quick fix to get it home.
New points and some air in the tires and I think it will be ready to go a 1/2 mile on it's next voyage. |
