Found a 1954 Mercedes at an auction
Missing engine and transmission, but body and interior look complete and in fairly good shape. Is a probate car held by the county...Contra Costa County California:

This car is a piece of history - just 9 years after Germany´s surrender. For a project car, I think it has great potential and the small amount of rust seems to be just surface. It´s a shame that people have to through their $hit into it when there are plenty of dumpsters around. I hope someone picks it up.

I emailed the Classic Center. This month's newsletter said they were looking for classics in all conditions.

the rust you don't see, if it's there is the problem. This is a very early unibody car. If it's underside is rusty, you're looking at like 20,000$ to refurbish a car that will worth less than half that.
On the other hand, if the underside is clean and rockers are sound, dropping a mid-60s motor and transmission into it is a no-brainer. Just watch the 4 wheel drum brakes. On the other, other hand, at 201$ for the next bid, that car could be parted out by somebody locally with little effort. HTH -CTH |

Price is high
Wow! I have watched the bid price go from $700 to $10K this morning to over $16K right now. This auction site extends the auction time if someone bids in the last 5 minutes, so this could go on a while...
