P.S. I'm curious to hear what you guys think of the leather. With 300k+ miles, I'm not buying that's the original leather. Actually, it looks like an Ebay replacement kit to me

Thanks Jose for posting that link. The best part for me is that my 72 4.5 is the same color as Jay's 6.3......silver/green. If only it was a 6.3. But I love the car, and like Jay said they were made for cruising.

Kind of surprised the car was a high-mile example with some rough cosmetics; his cars are usually so clean. Perhaps he enjoys the contrast with the rest of his fleet. I liked the stories from his dealership days.

I am glad he didn't install the SLS engine and drivetrain.

That brought back a lot of memories. I had a '71 for about ten years; silver with black interior exactly like Leno's. Sold it for $50 less than I paid for it finally. Always had problems with the air suspension but you just put up with it.

Got a ticket outside Augusta, GA, after driving 125mph for about an hour between Atlanta and Augusta on I-20. The policeman was red faced because he could not catch up with me. But finally the I-20 traffic near Augusta slowed me up. He had me follow him back to a little town and they threw the book at me. Think the ticket was something like $45 plus two points on my driving record.

Loved that car but finally sold it as it was too costly to maintain.

I doubt the leather is original, as well. This was my comment on the video though:


Driving with the hood unlatched. I had a 108, and I know that clip is strong, but I would never have tried it. You are a brave man, Mr. Leno.

Also: The interior fan is only for the A/C. The Germans didn't use A/C much back then, so the Kuhlermaster units were "Aftermarket" with OEM installation. Also why it's louder than the heat, and doesn't plumb to the back seats like the heat did!
