There was an auction recently on Ebay for a 1966 300 Coupe with an extra motor... Other 300 cars used the same big six motor as the W186 Adenaurs.

Have you considered a Chevy V8? Just kidding!

Question 1 is "why?"
Question 2 is are you aware of the parts situation and cost of rebuild for that engine, cuz it's a lot.

Comment - the one referenced on ebay is from a crook. Don't get near him.

In 1982 a Doctor friend of mine had the engine rebuilt in his Adenaure. The cost was a then eyeball popping $7350. And this was by a reputable shop.

I asked him if he had inquired about a rebuilt engine from Mercedes, which you could still get back then, and he just said if seven thou scared me then I did not want to know what the factory charged.

But having said all of that... I will keep my eyes open. Every Adenaure I have seen for sale lately has had the engine missing. I looked at a nice one on-line the other day and while the car looked fantastic the engine was missing.

Maybe they saw second lives as power plants for portable welders? Or irrigation pumps?

I believe the current rebuild price for a M189 is in the $35,000 range...
