W108 - 1972 280SE 4.5 - Need help finding A/C dryer

Hi guys,

I need to replace my car's A/C dryer. They don't exist new, MB classic center doesn't have them available. Fleabay has none listed.

My mechanic and I have looked around for generic or other brand replacements but have not come up with something that will work (we need both in/out valves on the left side).

Do any of you have any experience replacing the dryer you can share?

Thanks in advance!

Jose

Vintage Air - Inventors of Performance Air Conditioning - www.vintageair.com

Worth a shot, they have a lot of 'universal' kits; might have something that would work for you.

Thanks JMela, I realized I was spelling drier with a "y" instead of "i" ... As soon as I searched EBay for "Mercedes drier" I found it!!! :-)

Thanks for your help,

Jose

FWIW I found one locally that was the same length, but a bit smaller in diameter. Supposedly it fit a semi truck.

Most of the ones on eBay are for the 6 cylinder cars. You need the long skinny one, I saw one on eBay for $95. I paid $35 for mine.

Vandor, indeed. I bought the one on Ebay for $95. Given the choice, I'll always go for OEM (or at least a repro). But, with that said, glad to hear you found a replacement that fit.

From what I understand, these are becoming harder and harder to find not only remanufactured but any drier that will fit our W108s. If you don't mind, please post as much info as you can on the one you bought. Hopefully it will help the next person.

Unfortunately my invoice does not have a part number. I asked the shop when I bought it, but they either did not know, or did not want to give me the part number. The only info they gave me is that it fits a semi, sorry. When I was looking for this ~2 years ago, there were none available on eBay for the V8 cars.

72 w108 receiver/dryer replacement

Sorry, but they don't exist...I tried to find one for years.

Unless you are willing to relocate to another location under hood, and use a generic after-market...Nothing fits as originally located tucked in front of the radiator.

Best solution: If you have the old one send it to these guys and they will fix it perfectly...

DonebyDoug, actually they do exist. I purchased two from Bud's Benz via eBay. One long one for my W108 (that goes on the side of the radiator) and one short one for my friend's W109 (that goes in front of the radiator). As I understand it, they manufacture them inhouse. Both are PERFECT and a mirror image of the OEM.

Highly recommend them!
