W108 - 1972 280SE 4.5 - Need help with loos horn

Hi guys,

The horn metal ring on my car's steering wheel is loose and rattling. Does anyone know which bushings I need to replace?

Thanks!

Jose

From your thread heading:

"Need help with loos horn"

Advice about the horn for the loo(s) may best be obtained from Stretch, the resident quasi-Brit.

I fixed the same problem in my w115 with the following method. You need three of the "insulating part" (1154640024) which cost about $1 each from the dealer. Also, you can put a flat piece of cereal box (or other thin cardboard) inside the steering wheel to take up some extra space. I did that to keep the horn ring from hitting the steering wheel before activating the horn. It is a little hard to describe without pictures, but basically you use the cardboard as a shim to bring the horn ring close to completing the electrical circuit. I did both of these fixes at the same time, so I don't know which stopped the rattle. But with those small rubber bits and the thin cardboard shim, the horn works perfectly, doesn't rattle, and doesn't bump into the steering wheel when you push on it hard.

Good luck.
