larger tires

I just bought a set of genuine 15" Fuchs forged "Bundt" wheels for my 300SEL. Instead of the 205/65/15 recommended by Tom Hansen of Mercedes Classic Center, which would match the diameter of the original tires, I decided to go up one size to 205/70/15 as I think the originals look too small on the 108/109s.
GOOD NEWS! They look great as I had hoped.
BAD NEWS! I bought five wheels/tires, and the spare doesn't fit in the spare tire well. The diameter difference is supposed to be less than 1", but that inch matters, so be aware if you decide to try a tire that is "slightly" larger.

Pictures of 15" Fuchs with 205/70/15 tires

Here my car with new wheels/tires. Replaced rear swaybar attachment rubber at same time and that seems to have thrown off rear height adjust (raised it a bit), so I'll have to adjust that.
Also, my "europeanized" front end.
I've installed a 6.3 tachometer in place of the clock and moved the clock to the lower dash.

Sharp! I love the jeweled headlights and driving light combo. That must be a blinder at night!

The only thing that'd drive me nuts about the 6.3 tach is that the 4.5 has a 6k redline, I might look into printing an overlay to go on the gauge or seeing if I could find a vintage tach that'd fit without the redline there (or the proper 6k redline).

The engine may be ABLE to rev to 6,000, but it makes peak HP at only 4,750, and top speed of 124 @5,500.
Mercedes' service manual for the 3.5 and 4.5 engines puts the top RPM for tthe 3.5 @ 6,500, and top RPM for the 4.5 @ 5,800.
So if I could get to the dial face without taking the tach out, I would black out the "too low" redline and move it up to 5,800.

Tire size looks good! I did the same on my V8 Benz and 280C. Jealous of your tachometer.
