1966 200D Fintail Rear Brakes

Hey All,

I have been given this car and it is in pretty rough shape, but the more I look at it the more I like it and want to keep it. It does run but the right rear brake was locked up. I got the rear drum off and replaced the wheel cylinder but the problem is, like a BIG DUMMY, I didn't keep track of the assembly order. I don't have a manual on the car and can't find a damned thing on the web about this model brakes or even a schematic. I did remove the other wheel and drum to see where some of the parts go and there aren't that many, but I don't want to guess at it. But what's really got me stumped is how to get the bottom of the brake shoes lined up for the stud with the big spring, washers and short bolt that holds everything together. If I can get this assembled then I will be a happy camper and forever grateful for any help and tips. Thanks from a 'Never Thought I'd Own A Mercedes' person.

I figured it out by slowing my brain down and using some Spock logic..................A good old C-CLAMP!! Worked like a charm at getting the two bottom brake shoe eyelets onto the big stud with the spring and washer in back. I first put the top washers and cotter pins on and that helped align the two bottom shoe holes. A few taps with a hammer also helped and of course there's always the obligatory blood donation from whacking my index finger. I use blood thinners and I didn't think it would ever stop bleeding. 'APPLY DIRECT PRESSURE' my old ROTC sgt. would tell us as we were shown color war wound films. I am now a happy camper.
