Euro 250S back on Ebay
Howdy,
Euro 250S Wonder what happened? Sure looks nice from the pics. BTW, the round turn signal lights on the fenders, were these used in Italy or were they generally available in Europe? Sholin

Bill,
Yup, really nice. I can't think of a scenario where this doesn't sell pretty fast. The only one I can figure is it doesn't have A/C (which makes it not very useful in Arizona) and it has a slew of Euro no-no's when it comes vehicle inspection time. We don't have vehicle inspections anymore in Oklahoma (hmmmm......) but, neither do I have the place to park/store another vehicle. my wallpaper is a Ponton that was an Ebay offering a few months back. It is all white in PERFECT condition, has white front turn signal lenses (I believe these are original and cannot be obtained anymore), perfect wood dash and leather interior, and Webasco cloth sunroof. I almost bought it, but it was being offered in French Canada. I don't think me and the seller were communicating very well. Man it was NICE. Sholin

TxBill,
I only have a recently acquired taste for fintails. I used to think that the proportions of the car were not ideal. In particular, I thought the front was too bulbous and the C pillar area wasn't as nice as other classic MB's. I think the C pillar area on 108, 114/115, and 116 models is the best aspect to all classic mercedes. Blocky but also rounded. Certain years of Chevy Impala and Chevelle have that same look. To that end, I prefer the style of the sedan models in many respects more than the coupes. Since then, I've seen several clean fintails and have acquired more of a taste for them. The fins are really neat. I've got to admit the vertical speedo would certainly add to the '60's auto experience. There was one on Ebay recently that I contacted the seller about. Clean, 6cyl, Arizona car, pretty rust free, and not too many $$$. Sure do like Adenauer's too, but they are waaayy out of my price range. Bratten's cars has had many for sale that I really have enjoyed. I've heard the resto cost on an Adenauer is out of this world. Things like brake drums can cost 3 grand. But, there is little nicer than an Adenauer with all the windows down. Link: Bratten's Classics The Ponton's can have a similar style to the Adenauer's. If I could upload the pics, you would see just how nice the one in Canada was. The pics I have are over the 65K limit but here goes: One more thing, I'm pretty sure the Adenauer was built conventionally with a body on a ladder frame. The Ponton was built as a unitary body, one of the first applications of this construction method for automobile bodies. I think this was revolutionary at the time. Sholin

Someone picked this car up for $6,200. If it was truly rust-free, it wasn't such a bad buy.

If you look at the bid history on e-bay, you will note that the price was bid up by two ID's with no feedback, and the second ad is a copy of the first.
I think this is a scam. The guy probably used the fake ID's to get the price up on e-bay. When that didn't work, he declared it "sold" and is now trying again at an even more inflated price. Twelve large is all the money and then some for that car, IMHO.

Yup,
12 grand is out of line for that car. There are other examples of this on collectorcartraderonline.com where people have low mileage hangar queens with paperwork that think they are worth way more than they are. Maybe that's what this guy is fishing for. Still, the orig ebay car sold for 6.2k which isn't really out of line at all for an excellent example that is fully functional. I agree the bidding seems fishy but why only autobid it up to 6k when what your trying to do is bait someone willing to pay 12k for it. Maybe the answer is obvious: Those that would be interested in the car are 108-smart visitors at mercedesshop.com. Also, the car is now in florida not arizona as the orig ebay ad states. There is also no feedback left for the buyer, hmmmm. Me thinks the guy bought it and either discovered something wrong, didn't like it, or heard they are worth much more. Wonder if he will take 4k - 5k for it? Sholin
