Solex -> Weber conversion vacuum questions
Hi everyone!
First thread here on the forum – so I wanted to introduce you to sweet little Audrey (1975 280S, carbureted M110): I have had plenty of trouble with my old Solex and decided to embark on a journey to replace it with the Weber K248 kit. I have been documenting my progress here for anyone interested. My Solex to Weber Conversion: Pictures and Notes The problem I am running into is that I don't know how to match the existing vacuum lines to the two ports on the Weber (it has advance and retard). There are a lot of emissions control related things in here (mainly EGR valve, air pump). I am exempt in California, so I need be I'd be ok bypassing what needs to be bypassed. Attaching my diagram of how things were mapped to the Solex. Maybe someone here can help me! Appreciate it a ton! |

Ignore your diagram.
Manifold vacuum to the EGR and vacuum retard diaphragm. Ported vacuum (no vacuum at idle but has vacuum when accelerator pedal is depressed) to the distributor advance.

Post a picture of your distributor. Never seen one without an advance or retard diaphragm.
The solenoid for the egr is activated by a temperature sensor. Doubt if yours is still operational but an easy check is to use a vacuum gauge both when the car is cold and after it reaches operating temperature (apx. 160 F or 80C).

MY75 and 76 of the 280S had only mechanical advance.
Your EGR line from the exhaust to the valve is probably plugged so it probably hasn't been functional for some time. Also no need for the AIR pump if you don't have to have it tested. Last edited by Rick76; 04-18-2016 at 04:58 PM. |

Now that you mention it, I remember the '76 distributor didn't have a vacuum mechanism.

Definitely no vacuum advance or retard on the distributor, seems to be entirely mechanical advance:

Rick, how would you suggest disabling the existing vacuum system / emissions control then. The EGR valve tests fine, but I am ok disabling it: Simply cap it off and cap the line? Also simply cap all the other lines since it seems the only other functional component is the air pump which I don't need either?
