68/72 250c v 250ce
Hello all,
This is my post #1. First let me say that this is a great forum and I have learned plenty. I plan to buy a W114 250 C class coupe in a few months and have found a fair bit of info from trawling the web over the last year or so, but I can't seem find the difference between the 250C and the 250CE. I'm thinking down the lines of one is injection, one carbs, or that it's a American\European regional thing. Anyone shed any light? Thanks |

Basically right. Except for a couple of confusing twists.
The 250CE was not available in the US because according to one source, MB did not have technicians trained on the injection in the US. Second, the 250C actually has a 2.8 liter engine, presumably because of its additional weight and the need to be at least a bit peppy. It does indeed come with the twin Zenith carbs we all love to hate. Lastly, virtually all US 250C's were shipped with automatics. The manual trans makes for a much more fun car to drive. A five speed was an option, but I have not encountered a car with one.

Excellent. Thank you. I think I'll go for the 250CE if I can find one in decent nick. I need a w114 with the smallest engine available due to the high insurance and petrol costs in Ireland. I can't even insure the thing for another year due to my age! I don't have much mechanical experience so do you reckon that I should go for Injection or carbs. I have been following the numerous discussions on Zeniths, Solex, Weber... they look tricky enough to mess with. Do they need much tweaking?
Thanks again, |

Definitely the injection model, unless you have a strong masochistic inclination.

The switch from 2.5l to 2.8l happened to BOTH sedans and coupes in mid-1971. The vin numbers changed to identify one from the other. The 250CE was discontinued with the change.

Ahh, So it's a 68-Mid71 250CE I need. All I need is it to move, I don't care how fast, but I do care about the mpg and the slight advantage of the 2.5 over the 2.8(I should really stick to the 1.0 Micra if I want economy), but like I said and will keep saying, I need a W114 coupe, they're just the best classic!

CTH da man usually, but not quite this time. The 250C was always a 2.8, but the 250 sedan begain life as a 2.5 and was upgraded in 1971.
This per my 114 CD.

The 114.021 version of the 250C had an M114 motor.
The 114.023 version of the 250C had the M130 motor. -CTH |

CTH da man.
I should have checked the worldwide numbers, not just the US CD. 11,04 250C's with the 114 motors were built.
