Good advice gmog220d, I'll be sure to check that out. When you say "side shake" what exactly do you mean? Play along the axis of the shaft or side to side as if the bushing were getting wallowed out?

A little bit of good news, I checked under the floor mat on the passenger side and there didn't appear to be a big rust hole I was afraid I'd find.

This - side to side as a result of the bushings wearing out and the holes enlarging/elongating. When worn enough the air leak can play havoc with making idle adjustments.

Looks great considering the condition of the windshield seal!

Where are you getting the kits? Royze? I sent them an email today asking about the cost.

I found this article: Solex Carbeurator Rebuild © www.mbzponton.org

and this one:

Mercedes-Benz Ponton Solex Type 32 PAITA Carburetor Reconditioning © www.mbzponton.org

You probably have already seen them but I stuck them in here if others hadn't.

How can I tell? The Heckflosse page (Engine Specifications) shows a Solex 34 PAJTA carb. I don't want to buy the wrong kit. That page also shows a Solex after '63 which I think should show Zenith's. That may be a typo because the INAT was a Zenith designation (I think).

My carbs (photo) have a oval intake, the PAITA appears to have a round one. I'm confused (it doesn't take much!).

Did you check the clutch fluid reservoir? Is the hose leaking? Your description sounds like empty system. Clutch master cylinder not working or slave cylinder not working or leaking hose or air in hydraulic line could give the result you described.

I haven't been able to get the top off the clutch MC to see if its empty, its stuck and I'm afraid I'll break it. Guess I just need to force it because I would like the clutch to work. It looks like the original too. Where is the slave cylinder? I know its at the clutch but is is easy to get to so I can bleed it? I have a power bleeder, I suppose I could throw some DOT 3 in there and put it on and look for leaks. Or just see if it holds pressure.

I can't move the car and its not in my garage. Its just where the transporter left it. I need to round up some of my son's friends and get it shoved in the garage so I can jack it up and get under it.

The transporter mentioned that the bottom looked like someone had undercoated it with bed liner... I'll have to see that to know if it created a mess or not.
