Treating/conditioning/maintaining rear and front window rubber
Hey guys/gals. I put new rubber in my front/rear windows (1969 /8) a year or two ago, and was wondering what I could do to maintain it. Unfortunately it has to sit outside and bake in the sun, so I am a little worried about the rubber getting dry. Are there any oils to condition the rubber with? Any one ever heard fro ma dealer on this? I can't find any official email address to pester on this one, but was really hoping to find out manufacturer's recommendation. Thanks all, hope everyone is enjoying a stout black cup of coffee.

303 Aerospace protectant is popular on the detailing forums.
I am drinking a nice cup of coffee, thanks! Love my Aeropress. |

During the early 70's glycerin was the recommended treatment. It is gooey and goes on slowly so there may be better treatments. It is also expensive.
Also the original rubber compounds were made to respond to a treatment with glycerin. If you can find the specs on the replacement rubber you used you will very likely find a chemical that is made for the newer compound. Let us know what you find out. |

303 has a UV screen, which is good if the car sees a lot of sunlight. Another good product is Gummi Pflege -- quite a bit cheaper than 303 IIRC.
