I know about a third of the builders in that video! Unfortunately I live too far away for them to help out!

Just over a week until travel time! Modifications are going well. Need to replace the alternator, as mine's failing and the voltage regulator didn't solve the problem, to install/fix the temp gauge and to figure out why it's spitting out coolant.

Question: the AC doesn't work, never has, and the compressor has no belt. Is it kosher to just remove the compressor, especially since it's blocking access to the alternator?

Nah, don't remove the A/C bracket, just remove the compressor. Use the bracket to mount you a big arsed klaxon horn! Nothing will move stray cattle or zombies out of the way like a good loud, "Aaoooogggaaahhh"!

If you mount it under the hood it'll also knock any loose dirt and rust off the body!
