Checking valve clearance on a M116

Hi.
Taking the valve covers off to check on cam oiler tubes.
Gonna look at chain but was thinking about valve clearances.
Is there a write up on the spec clearance, setting to the cams to correct checking positions etc etc.
Will I probably be able to reuse gaskets?
Thanks guys. K.

Checking valve clearance on a M116

I think there's a sticker on my 350sl 4-Speed (parts car in the warehouse) that says all the valve clearance numbers.

I would guess that they are the same as the 4.5 cars, and I remember checking the valve clearance on my 1973 450sl in a Benzworld thread on the car. I'm sorry I don't have the PDFs on hand while I'm in the bathroom on my iPhone.

The gaskets get cooked pretty fast. If it's been more than a couple of years then I would say no to reusing them. They're too cheap to risk the mess leaks cause.

The clearance numbers are printed on every sheet of every roll:

Intake - .1mm (cold, ~20C)
Exhaust - .2mm (cold)

I've ordered a scanned copy of the Mercedes workshop manual. So I'll hopefully get all that info soon.
I'm finding it so difficult to get sll these little service parts in Europe.
Which is bizarre ad they are obviously European cars.
I've tried two local dealerships without success.
Anyone know of good European parts place?

Just say post Frank.
Out of interest, how do you go about lining up each cylinder for checking?

The distributor rotor will point to each cylinder in turn (as the engine is rotated); at that point the piston of the cylinder in question will be very close to top center of the compression/firing sequence, and the base circles of the cam lobes of that cylinder will be on the cam followers. The clearance is checked between the base circle and the follower.

I used a socket and ratchet on the crank pulley. I think it was easier to turn from under the car. I would turn it a little and watch which lobes were pointing away from the valve and would measure those, then rotate a bit, etc.
It may be easiest with a helper who can rotate it slowly while you watch the cam lobes.

4.5 gaskets will fit too if you would like to use a US supplier.
