Any good Merc Pick-and-Pulls in Dallas area?
Hi everyone,
Going to be in Dallas next month on buisness, and thought I might check out some of the Junk Yards (I hear they are pretty chocked full of cool parts).. Any Recommendations (I'll be there for 3-4 days)? Jub

Send an email to alibbassi here on the board. He'd know. 'Course he might be like an old fisherman, just 'cause he knows where the best fishing is don't mean he's going to tell!

Actually, I rarely go to pick'n'pulls as I've gotten used to buying parts cars, then making the foolish mistake of fixing them up and needing more parts cars You can search PickNPull's inventory by going to their website: Pick-n-Pull » Home . Using 75229 as a zip code will tell you what's available in the area. In Dallas, most of the other decent yards are on east / west jefferson blvd in Grand Prairie. In fort worth, AB Like New (google it) had several old MB's when I was there last which was several years ago. The diesel guys will know for sure. I've heard them brag about scoring brake pads and air filters at past MBCA events.

You would need to check the inventories before you go as they change almost everyday.
But... The PnP on Loop 12, also known as Dallas West, has a terrible parking lot. But once inside it is laid out nicely. Most of the Mercedes will be found on the west side of the lot, in the center and southern areas. The PnP on Central, also known as South Central, has the smallest parking lot you have ever seen at a wrecking yard. But you can usually find a spot. This place has a blend of cement slab and hard dirt since it once was covered with buildings which have all been torn down. Expect to walk a lot since this place is large. The last one, the PnP on 2dn Avenue, usually known as Dallas South, is built upon an old landfill. Therefore there is a great hill to climb to get to where the cars are. The parking lot also seems to have quite an incline. And this is in a rough neighborhood. You might be approached by someone in the parking lot offering you a 'deal' or this or that although PnP goes to a lot of trouble to run these grifters off. The parking lot is nice. I try to always park on the north side of the lot since there is usually a taco truck there that serves up some pretty good tacos. Entrance to all off them is $2 per day. Jefferson Street, in Grand Prairie, has the largest concentration of wrecking yards in the world. Yup, that's not a misprint or a personal opinion. Check it out on Google Earth and you will see what I mean. Look for the corner of Jefferson and Loop 12 in Dallas and work your way west from there. Jefferson Street is so well known among auto repair shops that once I was in a yard in Tulsa and they didn't have what the guy was looking for. He said he didn't want to but he guessed he would just have to go to Jefferson Street and everyone knew where he was talking about. Tulsa is 300 miles from Jefferson Street. |
