Oil leak from water pump? Am I seeing things?
1976 300D which likes to drip oil...a lot. I was watching under the hood yesterday to try and ID the leak(s) and saw oil dripping from what appears to be the weep hole on the water pump.
I admit the oil could be tracking from somewhere else, but is it possible for a water pump to leak oil? I'm quite puzzled here.... |

I once had a Mercedes which had a hole in the casing behind the water pump. It was leaking oil and it looked like it was coming from the water pump but I knew this could not be.
So I took out the radiator and almost everything on the front of the engine and found the case had a hole worn in it from the inside. A tiny hole but one that oil was coming out of. So I cleaned the area on the outside and squeezed in a bunch of JB Weld. This plugged the hole until I could find a good used case and do it right. |
