Question 108 Outer Door Window Trim Removal

Got a question.

I have new window brush for my 108 SEL and am wondering how to install the outer one. I have done the window channel and am all too familiar with dissassembling the door/window regulator/motor assembly. I've got new hardware for the regulator so I'll be removing this anyway.

Question is: How do you get the outer door aluminum trim off so that the outer brush is exposed? The inner is easy and I am going TRY to get to the outer by removing the window from the regulator. Is this the way it's done? Anybody have experience with this?

I'll be doing this at all 4 doors, so if the fronts are different than the back, you might let me know.
Thanks,

Sholin

Thumbs up

Figured it out. Turns out the clips that hold the window brush in are the same as the clips that hold the trim piece on. I took the brush out from the inside after lowering the glass and poped the trim off once it was expose. If one knew where the trim pieces were, you could pry it STRAIGHT UP from the outside.

The thing that fools you is that you can see some plastic spacers from underneath the trim and these are NOT the clips. They keep the trim from squeaking.

BTW: My car's original color (917G) is a little greener and not as bright as it is currently painted. Looks pretty sky blue now. One of these days I'll have to remove this trim again and get it repainted the correct color.

Outer Door Trim Removal

Is this process the same on a 1985 300TD wagon? I need to replace one (if not all) of my brushes and there is next to no information about this ANYWHERE. ANY help is greatly appreciated.

Also, just so I understand what you did:

1. Lower window all the way
2. remove trim piece (how? Just yank it?)
3. after this, the brush should just come out because it's held on by the same clips that hold the outer trim piece.
4. put in new one, clip it together with the outer trim piece.

Correct?
