Timing is everything

Make sure you are on the TDC after the compression stroke on cylinder #1 and then align the marks on the distributor

How many degrees before TDC is the intial setting?
Been told 10 but just want to make 100% sure.
Also told should be around 35 to 38 at 1500rpm without vacuum.
Confused!!!!

Thanks.

The static position is as I have described.

That's good enough to get you going (supposedly)

If you go to w116.org you can find an online FSM which might help you figure out how to adjust the dwell angle. You need chapter 7-500.

The specifications change for vehicle country and engine type. Your problem is being able to find the correct data for you M110. Most of the English language FSM data on the interweb is for the US market - your C107 wasn't officially imported so that data is missing. The closest I can find is the information in either the W123 or the W116 FSM.

Does your engine have fuel injection and electronic ignition?

Right OK

Go to the w116.org site and look through the chapter for the 280SE.

That should be close enough for what you want to do.

The data you have been given so far seems to me to be information muddled up with "closing dwell angle" and "point of ignition". This is all shown in chapter 07-500

Chapter 07-510 shows the static first fitting setting (and is as I described above)
