Question Disconnecting ball-end linkage?

Hi,

I'm hoping to pull the engine out of the bus this weekend...

This seems like a dumb question, but -

There are lots of ball-end linkages - little ones for the accelerator, big ones for the shift linkage. How do you separate those things?

I expected to see a clip of some kind, but it just looks like a smooth sphere with a threaded neck and a jam nut against it. Is there just something spring-loaded inside? Seems like it would have to be a pretty hefty spring to take the pressure in the "pushing" direction of linkage travel without giving some slop. I was a little nervous about just indiscriminately prying on stuff.

Appreciate your input...

Kelly
