LOST 1974 240D Vacuum Components Diagram
Hi,
I have a new 1974 240D W115. The car will not shut off. I would like to check the entire vacuum system but don't have a diagram or solid base to start off of. Some people say my runs my door locks and trunk and some say no. I have searched and searched and there's so much info for different years/models but not mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Diagram if possible or tell me what I should have running so I can check and re run lines, please |

Using a Mityvac (hand operated vacuum pump with gauge), check for total vacuum being produced by the vacuum pump. Perform this check on the vacuum line going to the power brake booster with any auxillary vacuum lines feeding from this main line capped off. You should see 18-21" of vacuum. Anything below 10" means you have a bad vacuum pump. If you have good vacuum, locate the vacuum operated shut off valve near the injection pump. Remove the vacuum line from the shut off valve and using the Mityvac apply vacuum to the valve with the engine running. If the engine does not shut off, the shut off valve needs to be replaced.

74 240d Grey smoke questions If you have this style of injection pump then shut-down is manual and not vacuum. Push the "gorilla knob" in to activate the shut-down.

Oh man! The last owner told me it wouldn't shut off because of a vacuum issue! I can't wait to get home now and push the knob in! |
