W115 300D axle repair

Blew a rear axle on a W115 300D, and no suppliers have them available. 240D axles are all over the place, but the general consensus seems to be that they're not compatible. I have found rebuild kits, but don't know if that'll work for me. The car still moves under its own power; it just makes terrible noises during turns. Any thoughts, based on these photos, if the "rebuild kit" will suffice, or is this axle toasted? I haven't pulled it yet to see if the splines are shredded.

300D axles (joints)

Seems to me that the 240D and the 300D are compatible, as a matter of fact they share most everything as W115 chassis... as a matter of fact you could get it right from Pelican parts for about 97.00 USD

Axle Shaft Assembly 1233500410 - USA Industries - Empi - Mercedes-Benz - 123-350-04-10 | Pelican Parts

odds are the splines are OK it is the joint that fails. Hope that helps

That was my first thought, too, but when I called Pelican I was told that they were NOT compatible, and that the 300D part has been discontinued, with no alternatives available.

A-1 Cardone PN

here is the A1 Cardone part number, take it to any auto parts store they are likely to sell A-1 parts and can order this , most likely, but it will be around $140. USD, too many places are reflecting it as a valid number for it to be NLA...

PN# 60-9022

Many thanks for the assistance: the A1 Cardone part went in perfectly. It's a slightly different design than the original, but it fits and I am back on the road!
