W108 Trim

I am looking to possibly purchase a '72 280SEL 4.5. The trim in the attached pics looks more nickel or aluminum rather than chromed metal.

Can anyone tell me what was originally on this car? The seller is claiming that these parts were originally nickel plated. Thanks.

Pretty sure it's polished aluminum on all w108s (280SEL included) and chromed on w109s (300s). I do not believe MB used nickel plating at all past the 40s or 50s.

It's anodized aluminum. I was just looking at some of this trim about one hour ago trying to determine if it was originally chromed.

It was not unless it was a 6.3 and even then someone might have changed it out. The bumper strips down the side of the car is chrome on the top and perhaps on the bottom, but all the window trim is anodized aluminum.

One exception: Up until 1968 the wiper arms were chrome as were the wiper arm nuts.

In 1968 they went to a satin finish.
