W111 Suspension & Brakes
Hello,
I own a 1965 W111 220se Sedan. The previous owner lowered the vehicle, by cutting the front springs. I want to maintain, or be close to current lowered ride height, but stiffen the ride up, as the car "floats" when turning or hitting bumps due to the cut springs. Also, The car is drums on all four. Are there any disc kits, or conversions I can do to improve on stopping. Car is not 'Benz powered, and it needs the stopping ability to match the go. Any aid in moving towards the right direction is greatly appreciated. https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2883/3...e7fb3a12_b.jpg_SEA9057-Edit by Justin S. Really cool looking MB man, that RB26 looks super clean - what kind of numbers are you getting? I would think it's terrifying to have drum brakes and that kind of power. I wasn't able to find springs for the 220, but I've attached a link to brake upgrades, as I'm sure that is a must. Let us know if you have any questions or if there's something else that we can help you with.

Are you sure it's a '65?
A '65 W111 should already have factory power-assisted front disc brakes, with a dual circuit master-cylinder. But the dual master-cylinder and booster would have been located about where the turbo plumbing is on your Nissan conversion. Happy Motoring, Mark |

disc brakes on a finwagon
Scott,
The front discs from a 6 0r 8 cyl 108 will bolt on, you will need the front spindles also. Keith |
Is that single circuit brake master and the actual clutch master on the firewall or just the clutch master reservoir? if it is actually a 220se which trim would say it is, it should have discs in front. either way 64 is the last year for a 220se. 65 would be a 230se. that looks like a early 63 before the larger front disc upgrade or if its drums even earlier. The clutch master is under the dash with a hose and separate reservoir and the power brake booster is in the conventional place after the late 63 change. the firewall mount is completely different for the master. power brake booster is remote mounted in the front behind the driver headlight. I have all the parts you need to upgrade the front brakes to either stock w108 vented, Slightly larger r107 vented or even better 300mm from a w126. THe master will have to be changed and some firewall fab work will most likely be necessary. I will have to look at my cars and see if a r107 spring is the same diameter as a w111/108. I do have w108 v8 springs too which should be heavier. I know this thread has been idle awhile but i came across it while looking for info for one of my project w111's.

220SEb 4 door production was from August 1959-August 1965. There never was an injected 230S, so no 230SE. The vent flap on the firewall was discontinued, I think, after 1962 MY, so definitely not a '65.

Hmmmm. Wasn't aware of that. I'm pretty sure my 63 220Sb and my 64 220b both have the flap. The 63 is early single style master and the 64 is dual. Regardless the firewall(and pedal brackets I believe) are significantly different and will not just bolt up from a disk brake car. The hard part is the clutch master is right next to the brake master so it needs to move to make room for the brake booster.
