1970 220d shifter gate light...

I am helping a guy sort out his car. One of the things out is the shifter light on the automatic floor shift.

The owners manual does not list this light's replacement number. I think it is a 6428 but I cannot be sure.

Anyone out there that can tell me if this is correct?

SUCCESS! I'm still not sure about the number but I did manage to find some 27mm X 8mm bulbs. They also have the cone shaped tip.

And they work!

When I was ordering them the seller didn't know the number either. But they asked me what physical size they were. Apparently this is how these bulbs are ordered.

Wattage is important also. Those bulbs are probably 5 watts.

A very good point. These are 3 watts. They work great and give just the right amount of light.

I did manage to squeeze in a bulb that I knew was not right in a car I had years ago. At night the light coming out of the shifter gate was bright enough to read a map by. I don't know why, since I don't know enough about light bulbs to figure it out, but the lights that are correct are just right.

So 3w, 27mm x 8mm should get it. Or at least be a good start when searching.

I am sure these have a bulb number. It is just that no one seems to know what it is.
