So, it turns out it was none of those things. We did find a number of things that we fixed but it still fell flat on its face under load above 3,000 RPM.

I have a distributor tester so I know that was working right. After changing the coil and ignition box we hooked it up to run on the coil only and it still ran like ****. At that point I decided that it was not ignition related. We did find that the RT camshaft was out one tooth so we fixed that along with a broken chain tensioner. A throttle shaft bushing had fallen apart so I fixed that but none of these usually effective repairs made any difference at all.

While working on the car, I noticed it had new trigger points and also a new throttle switch. On a hunch, I checked the throttle switch function and found that fuel enrichment wasn't working. The flat performance and light missing was actually a lean miss condition. We changed the throttle switch to a used one and it runs like jack the bear.

Never seen a bad throttle switch before and sure didn't suspect a new one. Looking back it made perfect sense.
