66' 230S
Hello
I recently bought a 1966 Mercedes 230S. The car has a 66' 250SE Engine in it (M129 Fuel Injected). Now I would like to convert the rear drum brakes to disc brakes. Which/ What kind of parts do I need to use? Are they here available here on PelicanParts? Thank You, Yannick |

Did you buy the black one with the red interior that was for sale on the FL Craigs list? That car looked like a real beauty. There aren't a lot of the "fintails" left in good shape.
You can convert the rear brakes to disks if you swap out the differential/axle assembly with one from a W108 vehicle. I'd say it is more trouble than it's worth though. The front disks/rear drums work fine and parts are generally available, except for the shoes (which you can just have re-lined when the time comes). |

4 Wheel Discs
I think it is worth the change, not just to add rear discs, but to change the entire rear axle to one from a V8 W108. Our Fintails have a 4.? to 1 rear end ratio, which makes for a high revs at highway speeds. The V8 has a 3.23:1 ratio, which makes the M180 / 130 much more relaxed on the highway.

I will say those cars do rev up quite a bit on the highway. My '68 230 Fintail turns over 3,000 RPM at 55 miles an hour. It's really turning over when the speed is up around 70. I wouldn't mind it having an overdrive gear!

Tires
If you go up in tire diameter you can help that rev problem a little, but your speedo will be off a little.
