What goes here?

Hi all,

Can someone tell me please what attaches to the holes in the attached pic? I cannot find any part on my parts diagrams, or on pics. You are looking down onto a door from a w111 coupe. The chrome trim piece I'm holding sits on the door, inside the door shut, next to the A pillar. Only thing I can think of is the door seal, although the holes are quite small. Cheers all.

I know nothing about the W111, but the holes in the chrome piece are beveled to accept countersink or oval-head screws and the holes in the door piece behind appear to be the very same layout as the holes in the chrome. I'd suspect it just screws in there, but as I said, I'm not familiar with the 111.

Thanks. I am holding the chrome piece where it goes. Sorry, I should have made that clear. The holes that I'm asking about are slightly larger than the holes for the chrome also.

That screws down just to the door. There is no seal that goes on top of it.

The door seal goes on the body of the car and is one long piece that starts at the bottom of the door, goes up over the top of the door opening and down the side of the car and into a spot behind the rear window. It is one very long, and expensive, door gasket.

When the door is shut it seals against the door. The chrome piece is just trim. It serves the same function as the chrome trim on the door facing around the door latch.

Thanks. I get that the chrome piece screws down where I am holding it, but I don't understand what screws into/onto the other holes in the picture. Thanks for ruling out the seal (possibly the world's most expensive rubber per foot). I can't find anything on the parts diagram.

Actually those holes are for the rubber seal which is attached to the door not the door frame of a W111.

Thankyou. If I look carefully at this pic of a seal I can see where the holes align. Best start saving for a few pieces of expensive rubber then
