Variations of the M130 for 190+ HP.
I have been reading on the Pagoda SL Group's web site that the 280 SL M130.983 from 1968-1969 has a hotter cam and an engine that had 10 additional horsepower.
Does anyone know if that engine setup made it to the sedans? Is it possible to find the components to get that added performance? |

Wikipedia has a list of variations that includes horsepower... If you search M130 you will see it.
Did the SL get an upgraded brake system? I always want to stop faster if my car can go faster!

I can put together a vented front brake setup for a r113/w111. Late w108 vented will work but aren't much better than the non vented and parts are still really expensive.

What I have found out
From the MB EPC I have been able to identify four major variants of the M130:
M130.980 which is what I have and its listed at 160 Hp. Standard for 280 SE/SEL M130.981 which appears to be for the 300 SEL listed at 170 Hp. M130.982 No information. Maybe it never made the cut for production M130.983 which is for the W113 SL listed at 170 Hp. M130.984 which is low compression variant for countries without higher octane fuels. The 980, 981 and 983 appear to be for both Europe and US. There is no 190 Hp variant. Which parts are different in each variant? I need to learn how to read the parts listings in the EPC to understand which parts got to which variant. What about the 982? |
