1965 220seb tune up specs M127 w111

Hi, I have a Mercedes disk that no longer works on machines newer than Windows Vista. When I look online all I can find is Ponton 220s specs and I am not sure they would be the same for my 1965. And I am just getting a range of numbers.

I am having trouble finding what my dwell angle should be for my newer fintail.

It seems to run well at 28 or 30 degrees, but that is .016" feeler gauge. That is wider than I am used to on my carbureted fintails. This is fuel injected.

Also any opinion on what timing should be at 5000 feet in Colorado? I read advance 1 degree for each 1000 feet. ?

I'll take spark plug gap too. I put NKG BP6ES in. They come out of the box at .025, but was told they should be .018.

Also, on the volt meter my coil was around 8 volts at idle and then went up to 10 with more rpms. I just expected that it would be at 12 volts. Is that normal? It has the ballast resistor.

I have been trying to track down a loss of power issue. Points, condenser, plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, all replaced. Originally when I started the points seemed completely closed. Don't know how it ran that way.

Thank you
Eddie

You might be able to run the disc under a " Virtual Machine " add on and some op systems ( win 10 ? ) give you the option to " Run program as. . . XP , Win ME"

Crane ignition

@ 97 SL320, I found some directions on the Mercedes Classic Shop website and I tried and then gave up. I repair computers for a living but it was just too complicated and the directions were incomplete. Some other people mentioned the Compatibility mode, but I don't think anyone was actually successful.

I had no idea how hard this info was to find until I started calling around. Even the Mercedes Classic Center guy could not find the timing for me. He was looking in books. It apparently is not on a computer anywhere, now that those discs no longer work and the Mercedes Classic Center guys says no new discs are coming.

So thanks melted Panda for the actually numbers. And I know now, it is for my 1965 220 SE and not a ponton because of the "b" in SEb as I understand it.

This adventure just inspired my to finally order the Crane optical ignition XR700 after Kent Bergsma on youtube talked me into it, and say goodbye to points, god dammit.

I set the timing to 7 degrees BTDC at 800rpm for my 5000 feet in Colorado and the car seems to be running great. Better power. The Crane upgrade seemed to fix my hard starting issue as well.

The Pertronix had kept me away because the distributor shaft needs to have very little play and the conversion looked more complicated. The Crane went pretty easy once I realized you just kind of shove it in there best you can and tighten everything down. :-) I expected the mounting of the optical sensor to be a little cleaner, neater, but then viola. It started and ran well. The timing was right where I had left it before removing the points.

So thumbs up on the Crane ignition points conversion!

I changed mine over on my 72 SL. It was a good move. Contemplating doing it on my 220. Glad you got things sorted
